The ‘Women’s Senate Chamber’ is a wall that is a replica of a wall that exists in the senate room of the University of Groningen. The difference is that the portraits are only of women. It is a collection of women who have paved the way for other women in the world of academia, participants in the Rosalind Franklin Fellowship and ordinary students. Some of the portraits are interactive; If a visitor touches it, a video will start running with a short item / character sketch of the woman in the frame.
The ‘Women’s Senate Chamber’ was part of the exhibition 4infinity during the 400th anniversary of the University of Groningen.
For this installation Floris Maathuis developed the concept in collaboration with Sciencelinx and programmed the interactive part.
