Abel

Site-specific theatre performance on an old tugboat

‘Abel’ is a site-specific performance on an old tugboat and a journey to unknown parts beyond the city center of Groningen. Along the way, the life story of sailor Abel is stripped away by text, images and music. You are taken into an increasingly isolating and abstract world. Ultimately, in a sinister and desolate place, Abel must leave the debris of his life to continue the journey.

‘Abel’ is produced by Stichting Different Trains (Foundation Different Trains). Floris Maathuis was the artistic director (together with Richard Neef and Kasper Peters) as well as project leader and technical coordinator. Floris also built a number of special effects for the performance such as a 10 meters wide water screen under a bridge and a beamer cannon.
